Shape Consulting Engineers are proud to support the redevelopment of Pendleton House in Salford, providing the full civil and structural design for this significant regeneration scheme in partnership with ForHousing and Vistry Group.
The £20 million project will deliver 88 new social rent apartments, meeting the growing demand for affordable housing in Salford. A key feature of the scheme is the restoration and retention of the historic façade of Pendleton House, originally built in 1936. Over the decades, the building has served as The Coroners Court, public assistance offices, Salford Council headquarters, and later as NHS facilities, before closing in 2011.
By integrating heritage building preservation with modern residential construction, the development safeguards a piece of Salford’s architectural history while creating sustainable, high-quality homes for the community.
“Our engineering approach ensured the historic façade could be safely retained and incorporated into the new structure without compromising on modern building standards,” said Barry Wilson, Managing Director at Shape Consulting Engineers. “This project demonstrates how heritage conservation and modern engineering can work hand in hand to deliver lasting community value.”
